How do Grading of Writing Prompts and Artistic Expression Teaching Tools work

Updated June 30th, 2026

Few version of Writing Prompts and Artistic Expression activities are in both PDF and HTML (Interactive) formats that can be assigned and graded by the teacher.

HTML / Interactive Type

For the HTML type of  Writing Prompt / Artistic Expression having One Part with only 1 Question, it needs to be worth 20 points regardless of the question type.

If the Writing Prompt / Artistic Expression has multiple parts then the Part 1 with Question 1 is worth 20 points, Part 2 with Questions 2,3,4 etc., is worth 0 points and set to not score. This makes the entire activity worth 20 points in total.

Only the Part 1 with Question 1 is considered for Grading and the other parts are not graded.

PDF Type

The PDF type of Writing Prompt / Artistic Expression, have worth 20 points in total for grading.

How does Grading work for Interactive type of Writing Prompt and Artistic Expression ?

Teachers can access their assignments for grading from several areas within the Gallopade Online Platform including the Needs Grading Widget, Assignments Due Widget, Assignment tab, and Gradebook.

From the Gradebook, click on the Writing Prompt / Artistic Expression assignment and select the Grade Option from the Assignment Manager.

Teachers can access the Grade By Student feature using two simple methods:

  1. Direct Navigation: Click the "Grade by Student" tab .
  2. From Summary: Navigate to the Summary tab first, then click on the student name link to access the Grade by Question page

When teachers access the Grade By Student tab for manually scored assignments, the system by defaults sets the Ungraded View toggle to ON.

When the "Only Ungraded" toggle (set to ON), the student dropdown will only populate with names of students who have ungraded work. Clicking on the student name from the dropdown  will navigate the teacher to the selected student's assessment preserving the current question or page number position.

The teacher will be directed to the Grading page, where they will notice that Part 1 is not graded. They can assign points to the student using the Student Points text box and add Question Comments.

The teacher is allowed the enter the comments using the Comments button on the right side of the screen.

Teacher can navigate to the box displayed next to Question Comments to see the points possible for the question.

To score the same question for the next student, teachers will need to click <> next to the Student dropdown or click the student dropdown to select the student.

Automatic Grading Confirmation :

When all teacher-graded questions have been scored for a student, the system automatically marks that student's entire assessment as “Graded”.

The final scores are updated in the gradebook.
