Student's Guide to Built-In Tools for PDF Types of Assignments

Learn how to use built-in tools to complete your PDF types of assignments.

Annotation Tools: Annotate Text

PDF types of assignments include Study Guides, Graphic Organizers, Let's Learn, etc.  

 

Navigation

Students can use the arrows at the top of the page, select a page from the drop down menu, or select the thumbnail image to navigate to a specific page of a multi-page resource. 

To show/hide the sidebar to expand the page, select the icon on the top left of the screen.  

 
 

Zoom In/Out

To zoom in/out, use the magnifying glasses on the bottom left of the screen.

To Fit to Width , Fit to Height of the screen , use the on the bottom left of the screen next to zoom in/out icons.

Annotation Tools: Highlighter

Select Highlighter from the right toolbar.

Select the highlighter color from the menu then click and drag the mouse across the text to highlight.  

To delete highlights, select the highlighted words with your mouse then select Delete highlight from the pop-up menu.  

 
 

Annotation Tools: Annotate Text

Select Annotate Text from the toolbar on the right.

A toolbar will appear on the right side of the screen. 

Then select the tool from the menu and select on the screen where you would like the tool to appear. 

This toolbar allows users to add text using the Text tool or Sticky Note, draw on the page, highlight, add shapes and lines.  

Users can also adjust the color, thickness and opacity of the drawing tools. 

Important Tips for Using the Annotation Text Tools

  • Select the green checkmark when finished editing to save your text box or sticky note and included text.
  • To move your text box or sticky note on the screen, click and drag the four arrow icon.
  • While editing an annotation, you can select the trashcan icon to delete.
  • You can also remove annotations added with the Annotate Text tool by selecting the three lines icon from the pop-up annotation menu and select Undo, Redo, or Clear Page Annotations.
 
 
 

Read Aloud

To have the entire text read aloud, use the Listen button located in the top toolbar.

To have select text read aloud, highlight the text you want read aloud by clicking and dragging over the text with your mouse.  Then select Listen from the pop-up menu.

 
 

Translate

Select the text you want translated by clicking and dragging your mouse over the text.  

Then select Translate from the pop-up menu and a list of languages will appear. 

After selecting a language, a pop-up will appear with the selected text translated. 

To have the translated text read aloud, select the play button on the top left of the pop-up.  

 
 

Page Mask

To use the Page Mask while viewing a PDF resource, select the arrow in the top menu then select Page Mask in the drop down menu. 

The Page Mask will move with your mouse up and down on the page.

 
 

Reading Ruler

To use the Reading Ruler while viewing a PDF resource, select the arrow in the top menu then select Reading Ruler in the drop down menu. 

The Reading Ruler will move with your mouse up and down on the page.
