How to Copy and Edit an Existing Question

To copy an Existing Question feature within the Custom Content section of the Gallopade Online platform allows teachers to copy existing questions. Once they are copied, teachers can add them to their respective assessments.

Copying a Question

The Copy option is available within the ellipsis menu on the far right of the question title. It is used to duplicate a question, and its behavior varies depending on the question’s status and type, as outlined below.

Copying Gallopade Question

When the teacher clicks on the Questions tab, Gallopade questions are displayed by default.

Gallopade questions that have been assigned will have an "Assigned" label on them.

To copy an assigned Gallopade question, the teacher clicks on the ellipses a popup menu is displayed; select Copy option.

Selecting the Copy Question option on a Gallopade question displays a Copy Question modal. 

The Question Name field is displayed below the message and is pre-populated with the original question name prefixed with "Copy of". The Teachers can keep the default name or modify it before saving. To proceed with copying, the teacher clicks the Save button.

Clicking on the Save button, creates a copy of the question and navigates the teacher to the Step-2 of Edit Question screen. 

 
 

Copying Custom Question

Copying an Assigned Custom Question:

The teacher selects My Questions from the left side of the custom content screen. Clicking Apply Filter displays the custom questions list.

Assigned custom questions will have an "Assigned" label on them.

To copy an assigned custom question, the teacher clicks on the ellipsis next to the question, and a popup menu is displayed; select Copy option.

The Question Name field is displayed below the message and is pre-populated with the original question name prefixed with "Copy of". Teachers can keep the default name or modify it before saving.

To proceed with copying, the teacher clicks the Save button.

Clicking on the Save button, creates a copy of the question and navigates the teacher to the Step-2 of Edit Question screen.

Copying an Unassigned Custom Question:

An Unassigned custom question will not display an "Assigned" label.

To copy an unassigned custom question, the teacher clicks on the ellipses a popup menu is displayed; select Copy option. The Copy and Edit modal is displayed.

The Question Name field is pre-populated with the original question name prefixed with "Copy of". Teachers can keep the default name or modify it before saving.

To proceed with copying question, the teacher can click on the Save button.

Clicking on the Save button, creates a copy of the question and navigates the teacher to the Step-2 of Edit Question screen.

 
 

Copying a question in Editing Status

The Teachers can identify a question that is currently being edited by looking for the grey Editing label. 

A question in Editing status cannot be copied; therefore, clicking the Copy option will open the Edit feature instead. 

 

Then select the ellipsis  to the right of the question name and select Copy from the pop-out menu.

When a teacher selects the Edit option on a question that is currently in Editing status, the Edit modal is displayed. The modal indicates that the question is currently being edited and provides access to the Question Name field.

After clicking the Save button in the Edit modal, the teacher is redirected to the Edit Question screen. From this screen, the teacher can continue modifying the question content, answer choices, scoring options, and other question settings.

 
 
 
 

Editing a Question

The Edit button is located on the far right of the question title and is used to edit an question. Its behavior varies depending on the status and type of the question, as outlined below.

Editing Gallopade Question

Editing Gallopade Assigned Question:

A Gallopade Question cannot be edited; therefore, selecting the Edit option will open the Copy feature instead.

 

From the Custom Content screen, the teacher clicks on the Questions tab. Gallopade questions are displayed by default. The teacher can select any class from the left side of the screen.

Gallopade questions that have been assigned will have an "Assigned" label on them.

When the teacher hovers over the Edit button, a message is displayed: "This is a default Gallopade question. Editing will create a copy."

To edit the assigned Gallopade question, the teacher needs to click on the Edit button. 

The Question Name field is pre-populated with the original question name prefixed with "Copy of". Teachers can keep the default name or modify it before saving.

Clicking on the Save button creates a copy of the existing question and navigates the teacher to Step -2 Edit Question screen. 

 
 

Editing Custom Question

Editing Custom Assigned Question:
 

From the Custom Content screen, the teacher clicks on the Questions tab. On the left side of the screen, the teacher selects My Questions and clicks on the Apply Filter button.

The custom questions list is displayed. Assigned custom questions will have an "Assigned" label on them.

When the teacher hovers over the Edit button, a message is displayed: "This has been assigned to students. Editing will create a copy."

The Question Name field is pre-populated with the original question name prefixed with "Copy of". Teachers can keep the default name or modify it before saving.

To proceed, the teacher clicks the Save button and it create a copy of the question and navigate the teacher to the Step-2 of Edit Question screen.

 

Editing Custom Unassigned Question:

An Unassigned custom questions will not display an "Assigned" label.

When the teacher hovers over the Edit button, a message is displayed: "Edit this question."

Clicking on the Edit button displays the Edit modal, along with a message: “This question is currently in active status. You can continue editing it” and Question Name field. 

To proceed, the teacher needs to click on the Edit button and it will navigate the teacher to the Step-2 of the Edit Question screen. 

 
 

Editing a question in Editing Status

Questions in Editing status will have an "Editing" label/status indicator on them.

When the teacher hovers over the Edit button, a message is displayed: "This question is set to Editing. Set to Active to assign."

The question name appears with no "Copy of" prefix, since the question is still in draft/editing status and has not been assigned.

To proceed, the teacher clicks the Save button and it create a copy of the question and navigate the teacher to the Step-2 of Edit Question screen..

 
 

From the Step 2 of Edit Question, the teacher is allowed to to add or remove answer choices, or switch from Multiple Choice/Multiple Select to Open Response questions and vice versa. 

Clicking on the Save button will commit the changes made in Step 2 – Edit Question. To proceed with modifications in Step 3, the teacher must either click the Next button or select the Step 3 progression bubble in the workflow.

The teachers are allowed to modify the Question Standards, Units and Chapters. 

After modifying, teachers can click Save button to save their progress. To proceed with modifications in Step 4, the teacher must either click the Next button or select the Step 4 progression bubble in the workflow.

The teacher can update the status of a question type. For instance, an Active question may be switched to Editing status, and vice versa. When a question is in Editing status, it is maintained in Draft format until changes are finalized. Additionally, the teachers can modify the Content Collections in order to publish the question to the collection.

After modifying the changes, teachers can click Save & Exit button. The teacher is returned to the Questions tab of My Content page.

 
 

Locating Copy of a Question

After saving the progress, teachers will be redirected to the main screen.

Navigate to the My Questions tab and click Apply Filter. In the search bar, teachers can type the keyword to locate the copied question.
