All about the Item Analysis Report

Steps to Access the Item Analysis Report

The Item Analysis Report can be accessed by the teacher using the following steps:

  • Click on Reports module from the teacher dashboard.
  • The Report section will display the Student Performance Widget, Favorite Reports Widget and the Standard Mastery Overview widget. 
  • In the Favorite Reports Widget, click on the link for Item Analysis Report.
  • Upon clicking on Item Analysis Report, the teacher lands on Run Report page. A default message will be displayed to the teacher, Please select and Apply Filters on the left and then select an assignment to run report. The teacher will be directed to the Item Analysis Report page, with the "By Class" view set as the default.  

    The "By Class" tab will be the default view for a teacher in the Show All Filters section.

     

The teacher can filter the School Year, District, School, Assignment Type, and Categories, with an option to include assignments that are "In Progress" before applying the filters. The teacher can select filters and click on Apply Filter to view the content. 

 

  • The teacher will need to select any one of the tab (By Course, By Class)  from the Run Report page to select the assignment. The default view for the teacher will be “By Class” view. 
 
 

Filter By Class

The By Class filter allows the teacher to filter by  School Year, District, School , Teachers, Assignment Type & Categories. Also, Include “In Progress” filter can be used by the teacher to include / exclude assignments that are started but not fully graded.

After applying the filters, choose the assignment title using the radio button and then click the Run button.

Run Button will not be enabled until the user has selected an assignment.

 

Without Selecting the In Progress Filter 

If the In Progress assignment filters are not applied by the teacher, the student who started or saved the test will not appear in the Item Analysis Report.

The item analysis report displays the selected class and class assignment details with the nodes drilled down.

Filter By Course

To navigate to the By Course View, click on the By Course Tab. A default message will be displayed to the teacher, Please select and Apply Filters on the left and then select an assignment to run report.

Apply filters on the By Course view by selecting the Assignment Type.

The teacher can filter the School Year, District, School, Assignment Type, and Categories, with an option to include assignments that are "In Progress" before applying the filters.

Run Button will not be enabled until the user has selected an assignment.

If the In Progress assignment filters are not applied by the teacher, the student who started or saved the test will not appear in the Item Analysis Report. Only the ones who have submitted will be shown.

  • For fully graded assignments, the final score is displayed.

 By default, the item analysis report is sorted by the last name of the student. Hovering over to the will display the sort options (sort by first name or last name).

 
 

Scoring Details and Color Codes 

Scoring Details:  

  • For auto-graded assignments, the final score is displayed.
  • For manually graded assignments the teacher can notice the status indicators (Not Started, Started, Submitted) displayed. 

Set Not to Grade:

  • When a teacher designates a question as “set not to grade,” the item is excluded from scoring. In the item analysis report, these questions display a 🚫 symbol in the corresponding cells to indicate that no points were assigned and the question was not included in the student’s total grade.

Response Visualization

The Item Analysis Report displays student responses using the following conventions:

  • Multiple Choice Questions: Student selections appear as A, B, C, or D in individual cells
  • Multi-Select Questions: Combined selections display as A/B, C/D, A/B/E, C/E/F, etc.in individual cells.
  • Manually Graded Questions: For Open Response, drawing, and sequencing questions, cells display the total points awarded after teacher evaluation.
  • Other Assignment Types: PDF assignments, Primary Source Analysis, and Artistic Expression assignments display final teacher-assigned grades in the corresponding report cells.

Answer Status Indicators

The Item Analysis Report uses a color-coded system to clearly indicate student performance:

  • Correct Answers: Displayed in green text alongside the student's selected option (e.g., A, B)
  • Incorrect Answers: Highlighted in red text.
  • Partially Correct Answers: Highlighted in orange text.
